How to Care for Your Organic Cotton Bedding
Investing in quality bedding means caring for it well. Our Amstelinen Organic Cotton bedding is crafted from 100% organic cotton with a smooth 300 thread count sateen weave—chosen for its softness, breathability, durability, and beautifully refined finish. With the right care, your bedding will continue to feel soft, comfortable, and inviting wash after wash.
Washing with Care
For everyday care, we recommend washing your organic cotton bedding at 40°C on a gentle or normal cycle, using a mild liquid detergent. Wash with similar colours and, where possible, turn duvet covers and pillowcases inside out before washing to help protect the fabric’s smooth sateen finish.
For white bedding, a non-chlorine bleach or gentle oxygen-based brightener may be used occasionally if needed. For coloured bedding, avoid chlorine bleach and harsh detergents, as these can gradually affect the colour and finish of the fabric.
Avoid overloading the washing machine. Giving your bedding enough room to move allows it to rinse thoroughly and helps reduce excessive creasing.
Drying & Ironing
Whenever possible, line drying is the gentlest option and helps preserve the fabric while reducing energy use.
If you prefer to tumble dry, use a low to medium heat setting and remove your bedding promptly once the cycle has finished. Over-drying at high temperatures can cause unnecessary shrinkage and may weaken natural cotton fibers over time.
If you prefer a crisp, freshly pressed finish, iron on a warm to medium-hot setting while the fabric is still slightly damp.
Minimising Wrinkles
Natural cotton will crease, especially after washing—and this is completely normal.
To minimise wrinkles, shake out your bedding before drying, avoid overcrowding the dryer, and remove it promptly once dry. Smoothing and folding the bedding while it is still slightly warm can also help create a neater finish.
Softer with Every Wash
One of the beautiful characteristics of quality cotton is that it naturally becomes softer with regular washing and use.
We recommend avoiding excessive fabric softener. While it can create an immediate soft feel, repeated use may leave a coating on the cotton fibers and reduce their natural breathability and absorbency.
Natural Fit & Fabric Changes
As with most natural cotton products, a small amount of shrinkage may occur, particularly during the first few washes. Following the recommended washing and drying temperatures will help minimise this.
The subtle lustre of the sateen weave may also become softer and more relaxed over time. This is a natural characteristic of cotton and does not affect the quality, comfort, or performance of your bedding.

Washing with Care
TENCEL™ sateen is a delicate, naturally derived fabric that performs best when treated gently. We recommend washing your bedding inside out on a gentle cycle at 30°C, using a mild liquid detergent. Washing with similar colours helps maintain an even finish and protects the fabric’s natural sheen.
For white bedding, non-chlorine bleach or gentle brighteners may be used occasionally if needed. For coloured pieces, avoid detergents that contain bleach or optical brighteners, as these can affect colour depth over time.
A gentle cycle—sometimes labelled Delicate or Silk—uses low agitation and reduced spin speeds, helping preserve the smooth surface and soft hand feel of TENCEL™ sateen.
Drying & Ironing
Whenever possible, line drying is the best option. It’s naturally gentle on the fibers and helps maintain the fabric’s drape. If you choose to tumble dry, use low heat only and remove your bedding promptly at the end of the cycle.
If needed, a warm iron can be used to smooth out natural creases and restore a crisp finish.

Because sateen has a fluid, supple structure, light wrinkling is completely normal—and part of its relaxed, luxurious character. To minimise creases, avoid overloading the dryer so the fabric can move freely, and always remove items promptly once drying is complete.
